¡Yo qué sé!

Nothing like a cold Beer to say thankyou and a well done during a private lesson. The mother surprised me saying how happy she was her son has been improving in English. Sometimes it’s nice to see the outcome of all the hard work you put in hours a week helping someone machacar the same thing over and over again. And who am I to say no to a free beer! Un beso! One of the perks of living a huge metropolitan city is that you have the opportunity to do almost anything. Go to the park and disconnect from the craziness, or go shopping down the busiest street in the city. I’ve always told myself that I need to make the most of my time here in Madrid to experience everything it has to offer. So once one of my good friends Marissa’s birthday rolled around I decided to take advantage of the moment and do something different. So I bought us a pair of tickets to go see Grease. A classic musical that everyone loves, or secretly loves. There is a lot of great theatre here in Madrid and I was so excited to finally go see something. I will say, it was interesting to say the least. The costumes were amazing, the set was creative, the dancing was fun, the singing was amazing…. But it was different. Haha. Cheesy to say the least. But we laughed and had a good time watching it. And it definitely was interesting to see how they translated the songs into Spanish! We’ll just have to see what the next fun thing is. Besos! So Budapest has a lot of Jewish history and Jewish influence. We went on a tour of the Jewish district to learn about their struggles. There were many people killed in such a short time. There was a man by the name of Carl Lutz who was incremental in saving hundreds of people from being killed. Next to a monument to him on a rock is this phrase “…beleőrülök, amikor hirtelen döntenem kell, kit mentsek meg. Hol van Isten?” which roughly translates to “it’s crazy when you suddenly have to decide whom to save. Where is God?”. Its obvious that it was impossible to be able to save everyone. So when there is that moment when you have to look someone in the eyes and tell them there’s no hope, just is something I could never imagine doing. A very powerful story. The shoes along side the Danube river are made of iron. It’s something they constructed to commemorate all the Jews that had died. There was a point in time when the Nazis would line up men, women and children along the river. Being as their shoes were the only valuable thing, they were ordered to take them off, and they proceeded to shoot everyone one by one into the river. It was really touching and hard to look at the shoes of men, women and even the shoes of children who couldn’t have been older than 5 or 6. I thought it was a very touching and well done memorial. Trips trips and more trips! I’ve been fortunate enough to take advantage of the proximity of so many different cultures here in Europe this year. First to the northern part of Spain to Bilbao, then off to Budapest, and finally to finish out in south Portugal, Faro to celebrate Marissa’s bday. It’s been so fun and yet so exhausting. Being able to learn about different languages, food, traditions and customs, etc. It’s an experience I will cherish for forever. Budapest was breathtaking. The architecture was stunning and the people were really nice. Not to mention all the different street food vendors! All I did was eat and eat. Never thought there could be so many different cultures so close to me. What does this mean?? Everybody needs to get their behinds over here to Europe and culturize yourselves! Haha. Un beso a todos! Tortilla española. :) I decided to try and tackle one of the most essential and popular items in Spanish cuisine. Tortilla española, or the Spanish omelette. All in all it’s not that difficult, but making it come out pretty is the hardest part. I have so many recipes that I’m too lazy to try or I don’t have the proper appliances, but the tortilla I was ready to try again. I’ve made it before but it came out more like scrambled eggs than a tortilla. Me recuerda tanto a una cosa que mi abuelo hace que me hace sentir totalmente en casa. En casa de mi abuelo en los EEUU igual que aquí en España. (Tomada con instagram)

On our way to the farm for a field trip and I’ve been serenaded by 10 4-year olds. Hilarious! If you speak Spanish you’ll find it entertaining. This is definitely when they’re at their cutest! “Papa Noel papa Noel Es un despistado Me ha traído los regalos del año pasado Un balón pinchado Un chicle masticado Y unos calzoncillos de Atleti de Bilbao!” (Tomada con instagram)

30 Day Challenge. My good friend Marissa sent me this video and it’s definitely worth the 3 and a half minutes. So watch it.

Ever wished you were better at trying a new recipe for dinner? Ever wished you took more pictures? Ever wished you could tell yourself ‘no’ every once in awhile? Frankly, this is the best way to do it.

In this video, Matt Cutts talks about how the best way to introduce something new into your life and make it a habit is to set a challenge for yourself. 30 days, focusing on the one thing you’d like to change.

I first decided my 30 day challenge was going to be to write a new blog post everyday. But last night, while brushing my teeth, I saw the little blue box of dental floss haunting me in my cabinet that I decided that would be a better 30 day challenge. Flossing. Every night. Writing in my blog is something I enjoy. Flossing isn’t, so it’s much more of a challenge. I’m going to set a double challenge and try both. Write something or post a picture on my blog everyday, and to floss everyday. I know my long line of dentists in my family will be happy with me and so will my gums.

Watch the video. Set your challenge. Start small and then DO IT!!

Un Beso a todos!

The first day back to school after a long vacation is always difficult. You would think that after so many days of “relaxing” that you would go back to work rested and refreshed. The truth is you become so accustomed to no responsibilities that putting yourself back into a routine results to be a bit difficult. Today is definitely an extra café con leche kind of day.
